I just had to put up a post dedicated to the above record labels – Exit, Nonplus and Autonomic Records. Over the last few years they have each been responsible for really pushing forward fresh drum and bass and infact, challanging what DnB is. Dark, groovy and thoughtful music made for home listening as well as the club.

I have previously written on this blog about the Autonomic podcasts, put together by dBridge and Instra:mental – a must for anyone with even passing interest, also check out Mosaic Vol. 1 a compilation released by Exit and as for Nonplus, they’re  totally on it at the moment with releases from Actress, Bodika, ASC and of course the impending debut Instra:mental album.

For people who aren’t fans of dark, moody, agressive DnB look no further, as a genre it could promise so much and these guys are finally realising this promise – personally it’s probably the music I am most excited about at the moment.

Burial/Four Tet/Thom Yorke 12 auction for tsunami appeal

So lucky me, I was abel to nab one of the 300 copies of Ego/Mirror. But then, watching the news, and seeing Japanese people who’d lost everything; friends and relatives, homes, possessions and livelihoods I figured I’ve got plenty of records, and as desirable as this 12 is, I can, literally, live without it.

So if you are thinking of flexing your PayPal account on eBay, everything I make form this will be going to the British Red Cross’s Japan Tsunami Appeal. Good luck.

Dustin O’Halloran interview

US musician Dustin O’Halloran came to prominence with his band Devics, and with his two albums of Piano Solos, which were released on Bella Union. For his latest, Lumiere, on Fat Cat records’s modern classical imprint 130701, he has widened his musical palette to include strings, with stunning results. In February 2011 he spoke to Adrian Arratoon on You and the Night and the Music about moving to Berlin, the popularity of modern classical music and about scoring films.
