No Country still the very best

No Country for Old Men

With this years BAFTA’s still very fresh in the mind I thought lets hope the winners are repeated for The Oscars, but they don’t mean everything, how Ben Kingsley never won for Don Logan is beyond me, well beyond. But it does bring back memories of this film, I watched it about ten times in quick succession, which either means it’s very good or I’m a dick.

The best time I’ve seen it was at Glastonbury last year, on my own, 4 a.m in a field. Then with such a colossal sound system you can really appreciate the tension, the lack of music allows the sound design to ebb and flow between silence and intense gun fights, but the sound is nothing without an array of actors at their top of their game. If you like the film read the book, the film is incredible, Cormac McCarty’s book is better.

As for the ending, it’s how the book ends, you can’t argue with McCarthy and why should all questions be answered ? Doesn’t that make it better next time ?

Stop sleeping on the tube, take that book, you won’t look back…………
