I was, for this pro-Christmas podcast, going to suggest that we enjoy Christmas because of the nostalgia involved (and I’ve just watched the 1982 Terry and June Christmas special. A million times better than Gavin and Stacey or Flight of the Conchords), because of memories of enjoyable Christmases of childhood, or that we’re trying to recapture some possibly non-existent idyll of Victoriana, or maybe just Reindeer roasting on an open fire. I thought about saying that the true meaning of modern Christmas is Santa being crucified on a Japanese department store roof, but then I Googled it, and found out that it’s just an apocryphal story. Another dream crashes to the ground.

But let’s face it, you’re tired of people banging on about the true meaning of Christmas; whether it’s the little baby Jesus, time spent with family and friends, remembering the less fortunate and so on. But just listen to Kellarissa’s The Eve of Christmas Eve, my favourite Christmas song this year, (played today, along with Jane Siberry, Holly Golightly and The Walkabouts) in all its realistic warmth, and when she sings: “I don’t care what we do each Christmas/Just as long as you’re with me”,  can anyone doubt that the true meaning of Christmas dwells in those lines?

Steve takes more time out from the world of electronica and continues with his Christmas shows, this time he features The Ronnettes, a little Lennon, Dean Martin and another wonderful Christmas poem read by Steve in his wonderful warm tones.

So now it’s my turn to show my Xmas worth, I’ll be honest I drew a blank at first in terms of festive music I wanted to present but with music from The Fall, Banjo or Freakout and some Gregorian Chant I think I nailed it, yes Gregorian chant and yes I like it.  Its the tenth day and theres not long left. . . .

Yes yes, welcome to the ninth day of Christmas, Digby dips into his ever present box of wonder to bring you a truly superior festive show, so when your outside near Liverpool St and its 2am and sleet is falling from the sky and the temperature is sub-zero just remember instead of looking for a place called T-Bar where Ralph  is playing just come home and listen to DCR at Christmas. ………….

Hot off the press is Adam’s second instalment of his festive show, he features Mogwai and Bright Eyes amongst others. A word to all is to listen to wise, especially at Christmas, does that make sense?

Here T offers up the second half of the Ladies Day Christmas double, she was first to beat off the competition and grab Low, playing a track from their Christmas EP, then in true Ladies Day style she takes the polar opposite and plays a jolly number from Chevron and then……………..maybe some more Low ?

The Electronic Tonic is on hold for a few weeks as Steve’s search for Electronic Christmas music proved truly fruitless, this gives him a chance to show his other side, unsurprisingly there is more than one way to skin a festive fox, the show features none other than Radiohead and Ledbelly amongst others plus the show also allows Steve to don his Santa hat and tell a Christmas story, see, it’s not all about The Terrace and sunshine at Space.

So Liam and Gem have taken to separating their Christmas shows into A and B, choosing not to mix their chosen tracks  but instead to compete with each other while still presenting together, so bickering as usual. The first Episode is Gemma’s featuring Get Well Soon, Slow Club and more. They also choose to discuss and feud over their respective shows, Chris Tingle, Cloves in Oranges and all those other normal festive things that I’m sure we all partake in regularly.
